Designed for performing and recording musicians who demand studio-grade audio, the Grace Design REX is a single-channel microphone preamp and EQ that offers the same sonic performance as the company's reputed studio mic preamps, but packaged in a pedal chassis ruggedized to work onstage or mounted to a pedalboard. REX is designed to operate like any normal footpedal, and you can easily carry it to the gig in your guitar case or shoulder bag.

This all-in-one compact foot pedal enables singers and musicians to plug their favorite microphone into a Grace Design mic preamp. You can tweak and perfect your own sound onstage or in the studio using powerful controls including high and low shelving EQs, a switchable 75 Hz high-pass filter, and a 10 dB variable Boost. With your own effect pedals inserted in the FX loop, you can also control your reverb, wah, distortion, and other effects, however you want. Two footswitches enable you to quickly activate the Boost effect and mute your signal—great when tuning. Flexible connectivity options include a balanced XLR DI output and a 1/4" amp output. REX is powered via the included AC adapter.

Connecting REX to Stuff
XLR Microphone Input
  • This XLR input with 48V phantom power can accommodate any type of microphone—dynamic, condenser, or ribbon.
XLR DI Output
  • This 3-pin XLR output is balanced and transformer isolated for sending signal to front of house, monitor console, or any mixer or interface.
1/4" Amp Output
  • The 1/4" amp output is for sending a non-transformer-isolated signal to a stage amp or anywhere else you may need an additional unbalanced signal.
1/4" FX Send and Return
  • Send and return 1/4" jacks create a buffered, unbalanced insert point (preboost) for connecting outboard effects to REX. This allows mono outboard signal processing to be placed in series with the signal, while still utilizing all of REX’s output capabilities.
  • If you wish to connect just a tuner to REX, you may connect the FX Send to your tuner’s input and leave the FX Return disconnected. Doing so will allow your tuner to always be active even when REX is muted.
Shape Your Sound
Filtering and EQ
  • Use the high-pass filter (HPF) to tame any unwanted low-end rumble or stage noise that may find its way into your microphone. When switched on, signal above 75 Hz passes to the output.
  • The Low control is for adjusting the bass frequencies in your signal. This is a shelving-type control fixed at 250 Hz, which means everything below 250 Hz can be boosted or cut.
  • The High control is for adjusting the high frequencies in your signal. This is a fixed shelving type control, which means everything above the 2 kHz can be boosted or cut. Simply put, this is a treble control. If you think your banjo may be too bright, turn this knob counterclockwise to lower the high frequencies. If you think your guitar needs a little more bite, turn this knob clockwise to enhance the treble.
Variable Boost Control
  • Need to rock a wee bit harder? This knob sets the amount your signal is boosted when you activate the BOOST footswitch. Fully counterclockwise is zero boost; fullyclockwise adds +10 dB of boost. The boost occurs after the FX loop and affects both the DI and amp outputs.
