Description

Limited to just ten units, the API 1608-II 16 Channel Console with Automation in Limited Edition White sports an elegant, creamy white paint job that hearkens back to an elusive production run of white API consoles that have turned up in only a handful of lucky studios such as the legendary Electric Lady. This 16-channel console comes fully loaded with API 548C channel strips, 16 of API’s flagship 550A and 560 EQ modules, four stereo aux returns, eight summing busses, and 16 motorized faders powered by API’s Final Touch Automation system. Oozing rich, colorful API tone and versatile enough to adapt to any tracking or mixing workflows, this special edition console is ready to be a jaw-dropping centerpiece for any studio.

Product Features:

  • Each channel equipped with Mic Pre and EQ
  • Per-channel 500 Series slots: 12 x 550A, 4 x 560 graphic EQ modules
  • 8 Multitrack Buses, 8 Aux Buses, 1 Stereo Bus; 4 Stereo Returns

  • Full Center Section control
  • Surround 5.1 Center Section monitoring
  • Classic analog metering
  • Global 0dB fader Bypass
  • Comprehensive rear-panel I/O connectivity
  • Limited-edition vintage-style cream finish

The 16 API 548C channel strips feature preamps derived from the classic API 212L with characteristic mid-forward flavor, along with essential utilities like a high-pass filter, phantom power, pad, and polarity switch. Each channel strip features four stereo send controls corresponding to the eight aux sends, complete with stacked Level and Pan knobs, assignable routing switches, and pre/post-fader toggle. A bank of buttons at the top of each channel routes the signal to any of the eight Summing Busses. The expansive meter bridge features 26 backlit VU meters, including oversized meters for the main left and right outputs.

The angled middle section hosts a row of modular 500 Series slots for EQ and other processors. The console comes pre-loaded with iconic API 550A parametric EQs on the first 12 channels for general-purpose tone shaping and filtering, plus four API 560 graphic EQs for extra-precise sculpting. The 550A modules can be swapped for 550Bs upon request. The eight remaining 500 Series slots are yours to fill with your favorite API or 3rd party EQs, compressors, and other processors. These come pre-wired as bus inserts but can be configured as individually patchable effects.

The spacious back panel provides all the I/O for the console, including discrete mic and line inputs, preamp outputs, equalizer inputs, insert send/equalizer outs, and insert returns per channel, as well as direct outputs via D-SUB. On the left side are well-organized banks of TRS I/O for all the busses, sends, returns, and inserts, plus XLR I/O for the Program Bus and Control Room Outputs (including stereo, 5.1, and two pairs of alternate monitor outs). There’s also I/O for a Talkback Remote, test oscillator, SMPTE timecode, expander automation, and more.

To top it all off, this special-edition console comes outfitted with motorized, conductive plastic faders and API’s Final Touch Automation system. Completely self-contained, the automation system does not require a computer to use, though it is capable of integrating with DAW software or external MIDI and SMPTE signals. A large color touchscreen displays all the information you need, and the system can be expanded with an HDMI monitor output, USB keyboard connection, and SD slot for saving and loading automation.

With its striking vintage color scheme, classic API modules, flexible routing options, and powerful automation system, this extremely limited console is sure to turn heads—and ears. Order your studio centerpiece today and start making music with a piece of history.
