The Gyraf G22 Dual Stero Vari-Mu Compressor is an updated, dual version of the venerable G10 vari-mu compressor. It can be set to dual-mono, but still keeps a backwards-compatibility “G10 mode” where one set of knobs controls real stereo, preferable during mastering. With a classic design the G22 will fit into every studio. Two handles make transportation easy, and the material of the switches provides a tactile experience. A simple sidechain high-pass filter has been added (located on the bypass switch) cutting off compressor keying below ca 80 Hz at a slope of 6 dB/oct. This is to keep pumping artifacts under control when working fast in bass-heavy material. Linking/dynamic interaction between channels in dual-mode can be set continuously from none to full by the Vari-link control knob - enabling you to dial in a difference in channel processing, and then varying difference amount in a simple mode. Bypass is, off course, hard and relay-based. When bypassed, the G22 acts only like an additional piece of cable. The audio part of the circuit is a faithful reproduction of the G10, Gyraf's flagship for more than 15 years - if it works, don't fix it. The only minor change is a re-bias of the output stage, which allows some 4 - 5 dB more headroom while preserving the original stage's soft transition into overload. The G22 is a dual-channel unit – allowing you to use it as two compressors on two different signal sources. It’s still a fully stereo-linked compressor with all the freedom and ease of control this gives you. For more information on this or any other Gyraf Audio product, visit www.gyraf.dk.
